the business of learning

is there anyone who can afford to not learn and change  every pursuit of human endeavor is about coping with change  if we cant  create change, survival depended on the rate of adoption and comfort of adoption  are the people who are at the helm of creation refusing to create - refusing to evolve will this lead to a dearth in content that will further facilitate change  what if there was no history of countries, people and places - what if everyday was a clear canvas, would that force learning, collaboration and creation  are we more in the past and less in the future  are we forgetting ingenuity - being cleverly inventive  does scarcity force ingenuity  isnt it then important to take risks, venture into the unknown, discover or unearth new learning  safe is always boring but lack of learning is death  what can make us invincible  is risking better than survival is habit a really bad idea  is experience a han...

thinkin in the times of cloud

Seems like Cloud computing is here to stay (this time around). As a concept it existed since 2005 and in 2008 it became a reality to few large corporate networks. Come 2011, there are makers  eager to take it to the masses. WE know that technology shows up being very expensive and ends up being ridiculously cheap, thats where the masses (like us) accept it gracefully as a blessing. CR - 48 or chromebooks are such devices. on the 15 of june there will be atleast 4 manufacturers launching chromebooks. What is interest to a non geek - is the way it changes computing - that changes the way we live our lives. Imagine a brain that thinks for you and responds to your querries in 1.5 seconds does provide many more smarts. this timeframe is what i call the threshold of intelligence, for someone to have voice in a conversation all he needs is a device that can search. these devices and connectivity were priced at a premium, which meant that the not so smart, but rich, paraded, as smarter...

Enriching the core - not making more

Eminent thinkers, theorists and  designers (ignore fashion please ) have proposed how 'less is more.' It is an essential and interesting filter when it is about conveying an idea that is singular in expression but open to multiple interpretations, meanings and endings. It is relevant in the received sense of meaning...but how does one apply it when u are in the business of creating meanings. To begin with, LESS in the context of creation means little, but it does not necessarily mean little is better than more. If we elaborate the phrase further it makes a bit more sense - less clutter is more richer .  The challenge of creation is to bring in relevant content that is interesting and paves the way forward. A way to eliminate clutter is to focus on the core almost obsessively and create core evolution. Build on the core and enrich it with singular yet progressive ideas.  Core enrichment is a linear development process whereas core reinvention is a cyclic process, R...

mystery of flow - trending

Time has this uncanny ability to fade everything that it touches and it subsequently reinvents some thing new that is fade-able. Ours, is defined as a time and age that is psychological in nature and not institutional. Which essentially means that individuals now have to perform the role of society for themselves...what used to be done for us by institutional structures like family, caste, society, culture through ritual process, we now have to do inside ourselves for ourselves. This makes us a culture of the individual rather than the collective. If every generation was given a megaphone to shout out their differentiated approach, it is likely that the POV of the current generation is bench-marked against some that was older.         What is interesting to note is that the fundamental institutions have changed from family/birth structures to social structures... Google is the new god and facebok is the new society. Ours is in many ways still a deeply ritualistic c...

Luxury soothes temporarily

Image
What  is the world of luxury, premium, couture…how do they create and stir so much emptiness and instill a feeling of hollow even in the souls of those with wealth and status.  Luxury operates by creating a deep sense of lack and void. It creates a profound sense of desire and longing– it creates a need that did not not exist. So how does one create desire and whom should we target.       They key to aspirational brands are that they are elusive – they play hard to get. No one can own them. They only allow membership not ownership. These brands are build on momentum and they flourish through the innovations that they come up with. Fashion, luxury and everything that is status conferring is also satus depleting, hence we feel the need to keep spending to stay with these brands and categories. At a broader level every faction of society has the same aspirations, some realize it momentarily and others can enjoy it over a longer passage of time. Luxury is a g...

The becoming of a nation

Loads have been lauded on the Indian cricket team for conquering the world. To the many Indians, this has been a customary display of Indian nerves and fragility and the ultimate triumphing over emotions. A tied game with England, a heartbreak against SA, a gritty win to outclass the Aussies and the vindication of Pakistan...we watch cricket like we consume a bollywood flick and it is no surprise we demand the same codes of entertainment from a game like we do from a film. The songs, the poetry, the locales, the highlights and twilights, the cruises and the unexpected bends, the emergence of heroes and the conquering of villains and finally a happy ending. World Cup 2011 was just that or was it more...     Parallel to the roller coaster journey of this tournament is the hint of the evolution of the Indian player. The involvement of corporate India, the proximity of the entertainment industry and the high handedness of the political machinery has ensured that 'performance' i...
